Check out pepole like Dr. Eric Mason who wrote the book ā€œBlack Apologeticsā€. There is Dr. Damon Richardson of Urbanlogia Ministries. There are some sisters out there that are doing a great work in the this field: The Bodega Ladies and Nefer Nitty. You should also check out True ID Apologetics with Adam Coleman!

You are definitely welcome. I am very thankful for those who take the Gospel to this group of people. We all need to do our part to make sure that the Good News is preached to everyone. I love your passion for it so much that I subscribed to your newsletter. I am not sure if I mentioned that before. I received your email today which reminded me to check here for your response. Thank you for your reply. I also meant to tell you that I am planning to update my blog post, ā€œThe State of Black Lives in Americaā€ to link to this article. I will probably do so during Black History month. šŸ˜Š

Hi Robyn! Thanks for your comment. I agree, I find that sometimes apologists seem to forget that the true work is done by the Holy Spirit. However, I look at apologetics as just another method of planting the seed of the gospel to a particular type of person.

A couple of quotes I like are: ā€œFor some, evidence will not matter. For others, it is all they want. The Holy Spirit can use both sorts of conversations to speak salvation to different human hearts.ā€ And this one: ā€œIf it is wrong to present the gospel plus apologetics, then why is it right to give the gospel plus testimony?ā€. Both are from The Case for the Ressurection of Jesus.

I think that people who need physical evidence are just a particular type of analytical person. And thatā€™s just a personality thing. God can reach them as well, and apologetics is one way in which to plant that seed that works for that type of person.

Thanks so much for engaging! šŸ™‚

I once attended a church where a black pastor did a series of sermons on apologetics. I can see the purpose of it, but for me, I choose to defend the faith with my personal testimony. And that is not because I donā€™t think apologetics is important but because I do not like debating with people looking for a reason not to see truth. If they need physical evidence then their coming to truth is not based on faith, at all. It just seems like a heart issue, so I pray for them instead that God will make their hearts more receptive to receiving His Son. When Jesus entered a town and they did not receive Him, He moved on. He instructed His disciples to do the same, to shake even the sand from their sandals, and to take their peace with them when they left a home that did not welcome the truth, the Good News.

I am thankful to God for those who are interested in using apologetics to defend the faith because you all take the Gospel to a group that others could not reach. I do think that those who are interested in apologetics should recognize that it is not the only way to defend the faith. And to me, defending the faith includes holding pastors accountable for faithfulness to the scriptures. For example, how many pastors are performing second marriages? Are they supposed to be? There are so many examples of pastors who are so busy trying to be politically correct instead of boldly teaching the Word of God. Thatā€™s what I think of when it comes to defending the faith.
